Letter from the editor

As I sit here in dismay,
pondering the words I wish to say,
reminded of how much easier it would be,
If I didn't procrastinate...who, not me!

Though, sure enough, I always do...
wait for the last minute to
complete those tasks that take a while,
then finishing barely in time with a great big smile.

But how much better would the task turn out,
if I took my time, and didn't scurry about,
in a hustle and bustle hurrying so,
to have everything perfect, don't you know.

How much better would the outcome be,
if I took my time, and started immediately,
leaving me time, along the way,
to edit and spruce, adjusting through the day.

So now I sit here, with moments to spare
looking around at this mess, with a startling glare.
Had I took the time to start this task early,
I could be having fun now, truly and surely.

But I have presents yet to wrap, and bows to tie,
dishes to clean, and in the oven a pie.
The guests are on their way, driving through the snow,
for Christmas is but here, in a few days you know.

How many of us avoid starting a project when we have the opportune moment, and leave it on the back burner until that last minute? Are you the person who jumps in first thing, or do you procrastinate to the last day to get that project done? Whether it is writing a contest entry, creating an activity, cleaning house, or planning an event, preparation, organization, execution and enjoyment are your keys to success.

*Key*Preparation: Pertaining to writing or creating an activity, research out what will be needed to complete your project. Will you need GPs for awards? Are their certain rules or regulations you will need to follow in order to complete your task? What tools will you need to fulfill this project? Is this something that can be completed alone, or are others needed to accomplish the task. Researching out what is needed is one of the key components to beginning a project. If you know exactly what is needed, there won't be any surprises later.

*Key*Organization:Once the preparation is done, having the tools to complete the exercise or task is essential. Organizing these tools so they are assessable and handy will help with the execution. Having an organized port enables you, as well as others, to peruse with utmost ease, your port. Having a thesaurus and dictionary close by your writing area, enables you to search quickly for that specific word you are needing. Knowing where that pen is so you can mark your list off, an added bonus. Organization saves waste of time, and that is time you could have later for reaping the benefits of having been prepared and organized.

*Key*Execution: Writing that story, creating the poem, or cleaning the kitchen, begin the task you have been preparing for and do so with gusto. You now have all the tools at hand and should be able to complete this task with ease. Whether with a writing project or something in another realm, once you have the other steps in place, executing the task at hand is now a breeze.

*Key*Enjoyment: Now that your project is complete, and you didn't procrastinate and put it off, you have extra time to step back and admire your work. Perhaps you have enough time to send your project out to others for a preliminary edit or review, before submitting as a contest entry. Maybe you can now go back and add some flair to the page of an auction or contest you would like to run. Once your project is done, you now have extra time to participate in other activities. Simply enjoy the time at hand.

Take the time to clean and organize your port. A neat and orderly port is a joy for you and all who may come visiting. This is your challenge for the month of January, FIND A MOMENT AND ORGANIZE YOUR PORT.

Aennaytte: Free & Wild in GoT Great newsletter, Whome. You are so right to ask all us to step out of our comfort zone. I haven't done so in a long time. Hopefully after NaNo, I can try to write some short stories to genres I haven't attempted yet. There are many of them. Also, thank you for featuring "The Weekly Quickie Contest.
