Resolutions:
those statements we rashly make,
too often break
because we cannot keep them.
We have high intention
yet need I mention
tis ourselves we oft condemn.
Start small, a sentence or two--
when accomplished; begin anew
in other words resolve in stairs.
Build upon that grand solution
when you frame that resolution
And you'll find you will get there!
If I had a dime for every resolution I've broken in the last fifty-seven years I'd be rich! Heck, if I had a penny I'd be quite comfortable! I've learned that I need to break them into smaller chunks so I divide a grand resolution into several mini-resolutions with each built upon the other. When I waver, tilt or downright trip, I can make the stumbling blocks into stepping stones and keep on going. It is kind of like cleaning the house after you wake up one morning and realize the entire house is trashed after the holidays, company, and too little time. One room at a time rather than the whole house method seems far more accomplish-able!
Do your characters ever make resolutions? Do they break them or miraculously make them all come true? How do your characters handle their resolutions? Are they handled realistically? Or doyou gloss over the whole resolution concept and just concentrate on the resolution...of the story?
*grin*

atwhatcost offers: My husband used to ask for a bunch of CDs, a few DVDs, and a bunch of books each Christmas. I'd buy them in spring so he had time to forget. I never let him see what I got him and hide them in boxes within boxes to hide what they really were. He's not a snoop or a peeker. All that, and he'd shake once and tell me the exact title and author/artist/director every time. How do you tease again? I think I married a real psychic. ;)
lianahush  writes: This reminded me of a story told of my grandparents who were born in Ireland and immigrated to Australia. My father told me that they never argued in front of the children, if they had something argumentative to say they would go into the backyard and they would discuss it in Gaelic, so that neither the children or the neighbours would know what was said.

Sadly, I hear a lot of this on the phones when I'm at work. As for the actualy newsletter.. very interesting and entertaining!!  I've tried fake arguments before. When my sister and I were younger, we tried to fool our aunt into thinking we were fighting for real, because we rarely ever do. There were a lot of shouting and the next thing we know, we were even hitting each other already.  It was a success and my aunt totally freaked out. ~mARi~
