The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

And that has made all the difference.

...For everybody hears a different drummer; let him step to the music which he hears; however measured or far away. Thoreau said that and I used the quote to define me in my high school yearbook. Under the 'Life Dream' section I put: To someday have my own publishing company or small press. That was in 1972. FORTY years ago.
This week, the dream comes true. This week, after years of working in the industry and months of preparation, research, legwork, prayers, tears and sweat, I am moving into my office space and launching Wynwidyn Press, LLC. Sure, there are tons of self-publishing companies out there, but I was determined to build my business model to a different drummer, to take the high road; the path less traveled and make mine not only profitable (It is a business after all) but to also make it both affordable and, more importantly, author friendly. I talked myself blue in the face but eventually, I was able to convince not only my husband and other family members, but me, myself and I that not only could I do this, I could make it into something very special. So the path is chosen, the first steps taken.
I've been a moderator now for roughly four years. I loved writing my three newsletters every month. But the time has come when I need to make some difficult choices as this journey begins. I am incredibly busy...a very good thing! But I simply will not have the time to do justice to any task if I spread myself too thin. As giving up WDC is NOT an option I am willing to consider, giving up two of my three newsletters is a compromise I can live with. I will still write my 'For Authors' newsletter.
I have so enjoyed this journey. But the path splits and I am choosing the path that fulfills a dream. Along the way, I may, as often happens, stumble, trip or fall flat on my face a few times. I will pick myself up, consider why and how I tripped and go forward once again; now turning that stumbling block into a stepping stone.
Hopefully, over the past few years, I have sparked your muse, answered your questions and imparted some knowledge. It has been an honor and a privilege to write to you all every month. I will miss this. But I will also be helping new writers become published authors, and helping others achieve their dreams as I pursue mine.

Ԝ€ß☆ԜiʈCH  responds: Wise advice for all romance writers. Keep it real! Simplicity can be more romantic than some complicated, orchestrated plan, accompanied by an advertised piece of jewelry. Good for the merchants, not necessarily great for the love life.
