Letter from the editor

First of all, my sincere apologies to the readers of this Newsletter – I have been away for rather a long while and have been unable to write anything. Therefore, I missed my last Newsletter, and have been unable to keep my promise about writing an Action/Adventure poem. I will however write one in time for my next edition.

The past two weeks of my life were spent in the company of my mother and younger sister, which was an adventure all by itself. My mother is very interested in witches; thus we spent a lot of time on the Lancashire Witch Trail.

Whilst visiting Lancaster, and being locked up in a dungeon for quite a while (not something I would advise, unless you are very adventurous indeed), I thought on how history is filled with plenty of inspiring moments for Action/Adventure pieces.

The case of the Lancashire witches, for example, offers a lot of opportunity for research and information, if you enjoy setting your writings to a historical background. A group of women, hunted for being different, tangled in strange and intriguing circumstances, resulted in the first ever recorded trial in the history of Britain. A messenger rushed to the castle with a note that one person had been cleared of all accusations… arriving too late because the person in question refused to stop for their last permitted drink...

When pondering on characters for an Action/Adventure item, why not look at the past? History is filled with heroes and villains, amazing settings… and above all with ordinary people ending up in unusual circumstances.

Until next time!
