Letter from the editor

A strong character can make a story, novel, or movie unforgettable. It is the novels with a strong characters that I want to read over and over. It works the same way with a movie or a television show, if the characters are strong then I will watch every episode. Since March is Women's History Month, I thought I would discuss some strong female characters that make these stories memorable.

One of my favorite strong female characters is Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. Another is Lessa of Ruatha Hold, she impressed the queen dragon Ramoth in the Pern Series by Anne McCaffrey. Then there were the women of Star Trek, Star Trek the Next Generation, etc. These women include Nurse Chapel, Seven of Nine, Hoshi Sato, Deanna Troi, B'Elanna Torres, and Dr. Beverly Crushe to name just a few.

Those are just a few of the strong female characters in science fiction and fantasy. I know there are others, some of which are in novels and short stories post in writing.com ports. I would like to include some of the character in works on this sit in the next issue, so please post a link to the item in the response portion of this newsletter.
