About This Newsletter

Writing.com is a great place to practice your writing, receive reviews and support from fellow members. Being a part of Writing.com's community gives you the validation you need to be the best writer you can be.

I have been an editor for the Contest & Activities Newsletter for almost two years now, and I couldn't be happier. I am lucky to be among a super group of editors who put so much effort and pride into creating informational newsletters with a flair of personal quality.

The Contest & Activities Newsletter will showcase up-to-date contests and will also mention contests that have been around awhile. Contests are not only fun, but a great way to earn gift points, receive constructive reviews and meet fellow writers. If you would like to host a contest or you want to read up on what's going on, you couldn't be in a better place -- all the tips, ideas and encouragement are right here!

There are many activities on Writing.com, such as Campfires, Interactive stories, In & Outs, Madlibs, Survey Forms, User Polls, Word Searches and whatever you, the member, would like to create and share with the community. There is so much fun stuff to talk about, so make sure you stick around!

Letter from the editor

Hi Newbies!

It's great to be back for another edition dedicated to you, our new members. I hope you all know that it is exciting to read all the wonderful new items posted in "Read A Newbie", which is located under "Item Jumps" top left side of screen. I wish I could read every single story or poem, but I do have to sleep, eat and take care of my family, lol. You all bring fresh, unique and wonderful reading.

I was thinking I haven't talked about Community Notes (cNotes), which is one of the best ways to cheer, congratulate or thank someone. Cnotes are individual e-cards designed by Upgraded Members with varying themes, images and wording. They are quite fun to create and it's addicting!

To create one all you do is click on "Writing" top of screen; scroll down to "Writing: Interactive" and click on "Communite Note" with a little envelope beside it and follow the directions. But first, to spice up your cnote, you can create an image with a image software like PSP, Adobe or Photoshop.

Check out the collection of awesome cnotes I plugged below.

Have fun creating!

Until next time...

Ask & Answer

I think you make a great point about making time for writing. I'm sure all of us can find 15 minutes to do something to keep our muse entertained and feeling like we aren't ignoring him or her. :)

Meg: Writes Daily in 2006

Absolutely, even if it's writing out your "To Do List" for the day, lol. Thanks for writing in.

Good suggestions, Laurencia.

Puditat

Thanks Puddin'!

Thank you for another helpful Noticing Newbies Newsletter, Laurencia!

I would like to nest on the east coast this winter. But I have a wedding to put on first.

PastVoices

Thanks Nanette! I hope you can get out my way some day.

Laurencia, Sometimes free writing is just as hard to begin as the real thing. I like your tips about the timer and a few prompt words. Personally, I need prompting.

esprit

I hear ya! We all have our days.

Larencia,
I should really take your advice on the 15 minute writing activity! I have not been writing much at all lately, though I did write 10 pages the last night we were camping! Anyway, thanks for the inspiration! Very nice newsletter.

Cubby~Cheering House Florent!

Hi Cubby! I haven't heard from you in a while, it's a pleasure. I know, it can be difficult to stay on a writing schedule. I figure, if there is a day I don't write something, than I need to at least read something.

Nice news letter, I'm glad us newbies have something to look at and somewhere that we are thought of. thanks again
