 In my last issue, I said, "Since romance is hard to define, please share the most romantic thing you've heard, said, or done for someone." As I scanned Writing.Com I found some romantic treats, which made me think about the most romantic moment I've experienced. I wasn't too surprised to see that I didn't come up with a particular moment. While I have seen and heard romantic bits here and there, I have yet to experience something that I consider to be 'my most romantic moment'.
Now let's share some of your responses!
 MaryLou  : When my husband was turning 40, I planned a surprise over-the-hill party for him. I asked all the guests to bring some inexpensive object that related to a memory he or she had about my husband. Then I set them all out on a table, and my husband was asked to guess who had brought each item. It was quite fun to do. He had no trouble guessing which item was from me: a postcard with a picture of the Baytown-LaPorte tunnel which has been closed for years. The tunnel has a very special meaning for both of us.
finnley : After a bit of thought I realized that I find it very difficult to show my romantic side. I write romantic poems but I never show them to the people I wrote them for. This seems to be more of a selfish indulgence than a romantic gesture. However, I was romantic a few years ago on my husband's birthday. He had been going through a stressful time at work, full of deadlines and travel. It had really got to him and I wasn't able to help him with it. So, on his birthday I booked a table at his favorite restaurant. I also bought a big bunch of helium balloons to stand in the hallway, which I had filled with candles. It was the first thing he saw when he came home and the stress drained from his face. I don't think I have ever seen him more surprised. Needless to say, we had a lovely evening and didn't mention work at all.
Sarah Rae : My date and I had spent practically all day together. First the 7 1/2 hours I worked for his mom. Only an hour and a half after I'd left, he was picking me up for our date. We spent another 5-6 hours together, half of which was spent driving back and forth across town because neither of us wanted to go home and have the night end, when suddenly he says "Let's just get on the freeway and drive. We won't come home until its time for me to leave on Tuesday." When I laughed and told him I would end up sleeping through most of the trip being as tired as I was he answered: "I don't care if you sleep. I just want to be with you for as long as I can."
karabu: My husband is shy, and a man of few words. While going to night school he had to write a paper for English class. I don't know what the assignment was, but he wrote about me, and how much he loved me. It went over our whole relationship since we met and what different times had meant to him. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever read. He came up to me one day, handed it to me and said, "My teacher said you should read this," and walked away. If not for his instructor, I doubt I'd have ever seen that paper.
Tigger thinks of Prancer : I would say the most romantic thing I've done for someone was that I recorded myself reading a novel that had some sexy parts to it. For Jax, so far the most romantic thing I think I've done was learn to sign some love songs to her (ASL).
Jax: Not here. : The best date we've had so far is just going to the park and laying on our backs while watching the stars. I tend to like dates that actually allow you to talk and such. Doing something you'll both like is a plus too. Just being yourselves is the best because that's what you both are attracted to the person, not the role they try to play. I see romance as something that has to already be there, like chemistry. You don't have to do more than snuggle while watching a movie at home, to be romantic. Occasional dinners out is good and keeps you and your partner from getting bored or your love life in a rut. Basically romance is just anyway you can show you care/like/love your partner. Anyway that comes about is great.
Vivian  : Robert is not one for giving flowers. Maybe that's one reason the times he has given me any made such an impression: the large arrangement of red roses with one white bud when our baby died; a flower bed of rose moss with a and printed sign that said, "Happy Mother's Day"; three rose bushes on our anniversary. A few weeks before he became ill with the staph infection, he went to the store. When he arrived home, he opened the door and told me to close my eyes. I heard his power chair cross the carpet and stop beside where I sat. "You can open your eyes now," he said as he handed me a dozen red roses. "I just thought you needed something special to let you know how special you are." Ah, he has his moments.
daycare: My sister-in-law threw a large party for my brother this year. He turned fifty. She called the bank where he works as manager and told them he would not be there for a week. When the party ended he entered the bedroom to find his suitcase packed. He was on his way to the Dominican Republic for a week. His children 19, 20 and 21 had all chipped in on the tickets. He was thrilled. Romantic? I don't know. Would be for me.
AuntyNelly : The most romantic thing I've heard is from my mother who told me that before my father passed away he said to her, "Would you believe me if I told you I have never betrayed you not once in these 45 years? My mother replied, "of course I do." I thought that was wonderful and very romantic! I think it's very difficult to say the same thing in this period and society. "To My Father" [E]
Love is a Mommy (no foolin)  : Since I've hurt my shoulder, my husband has been taking care of me and making sure I don't do too much. Last night we came home and he helped me into the bath, and I soaked for a while and read. When I got out, he had a hot water bottle for me and got me cuddled up on the couch to snooze until he was ready to go to bed. It's just the small sweet things like that that make a difference. |
 Here are some sweet treats that I found truly romantic!
 It's moments like these that should be treasured.

Romance could be defined by the dedication someone has toward their loved one.
Can falling in love be a bad thing sometimes?
