Love is Change

This past weekend, I had a revelation: love is about change.
If you've ever read a romance novel (or any kind of novel, for that matter), you've probably experience the following scenario:

You're reading along having a great time. The characters are happy and in love. It makes YOU feel happy. Then, you get about half way through the novel and think "Wait! What? Nothing is happening! There's no suspense and no character development. No one is growing and changing! This is so boring!"

In any good piece of literature, suspense keeps us hooked, rooting for our protagonist. We want to see them experience ups and downs. It keeps us interested, and it makes literature more realistic. Life is kind of the same way. Instead of letting our love lives grow stale, or lull into a "comfort zone" where every day is the same old thing, we need to add some excitement to our lives. Sometimes, that means doing something really scary, like moving in together or getting engaged or finally picking a wedding date. Scary and suspenseful is good. It means you are willing to jump out of your comfort zone and make your life better.

This past weekend, I realized that both love and life are about change. My love life isn't going to be a Nicholas Sparks novel, but it's also not going to be dull and boring, either. Time for that suspense that leads toward the climax of my life!
