Welcome to this edition of the Spiritual Newsletter.

This month I've decided to talk about hope and courage. I hope you will enjoy it.

Letter from the editor

I am sure that a lot of things have already been said about hope. Around the site, in this Newsletter, even in our daily conversations, hope is a word often used.

There was a time in my life, not that long ago, when I was convinced that hope was but an empty word. That the whole concept of hope was one of those meaningless things that people make up to assure others that everything is fine, really. But that, at the end of the day, hope was pointless. I didn’t think I had anything to hope for. And why should I cling to something that would not make a difference, would not do me any good? Why bother with something that wouldn’t help me?

As you can probably guess, I was rather at a low in my life. I didn’t think I had a future, not a nice one anyway. I thought the road ahead would be as doomy and gloomy as I felt and had difficulty facing it. But even as I had given up on the idea of hope, I think that somewhere, deep down, I did hope. I prayed to get better and prayed I would have a future.

All of a sudden, good things started to happen. After months of feeling so very low and of being desperate about the path ahead, I got a job offer basically thrown in my lap. Despite being anxious I went to the job interview. It turned out to be one of the easiest interviews I ever had. It was along the lines of, “This is the office, when can you start and how much would you like to be paid?”.

I gathered all my courage and went for it. Slowly but surely my life started to improve. Recently I’m starting to make friends, I’m good at the job and I got a pay rise after only seven months of working there.

Sometimes I need to travel for work. I’ve been through some beautiful parts of Scotland and through Snowdonia and along the coast of Wales. I’ve visited a place that held bad memories for me and did well enough, it helped me face that part of the past.

And I’ve learned to dare hope again. There is still a lot in my life that needs sorting, but I think I’m getting there. I’ve also learned that hope alone won’t do the trick. You need to put a bit of effort (and sometimes a great deal of courage and determination) into things if you want them to happen.

I landed that job because of people I know thinking I would be perfect of it. But I did need to force myself to go to the interview and actually do the job. I did need to travel after basically locking myself in the house for months, hiding away from the world.

I think life offers you chances. It’s up to you to go for it or not. I also think people are stronger than they think they are. For me, going to that interview was not easy. I was scared I would get another anxiety attack, scared I could never, ever cope with being in a work environment again. But I did it.

So if you are reading this and perhaps aren’t too sure about hope, or not too sure about yourself… keep hoping and believing. You can do lots more than you might think. And hope combined with courage is very effective. Who knows where it might lead you?

Ask & Answer

I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful feedback I have received, both through this Newsletter and via email. It was inspiring and encouraging and I am very grateful.

I have decided not to respond publically to all of your feedback. Some I found too personal in nature and I would not wish to hurt any feelings. This does not mean I am any less grateful, though. *Smile*.

Prosperous Snow celebrating - Welcome. This edition of the newsletter arrived at an important time. I submitted a poem to an online mag. a while back and received the rejection today. I've been a bit down about that. When I read my writing.com e-mail, the spirituality newsletter was at the top of the que. This newsletter was just wat I needed today.

Snow

Thank you, Snow. I am glad my words made a bit of a difference. Good luck with the submissions! Don't give up *Smile*.

annabelb - Welcome!

Your words struck a chord. Although I don’t have your condition I do have fear, lots of it. It has been a constant companion with decidedly negative results. They have ranged from a lost marriage to lost opportunities in many other areas of my life.

Then someone said, "Courage is fear mixed with prayers, that's all it is".

This was a revelation. I thought fear and courage were mutually exclusive and because I had an over abundance of one would never be able to have the other. Not so. I will dissolve into a cold sweat and my heart will try to break free from my chest many more times yet, no doubt, but I am no longer stymied by it. I don't hide from life, and then suffer from the great shame that goes along with that. I acknowledge my fear, pray –a lot, take a deep breath and get on with it; as evidenced by my joining this site.

All the best in your position as Editor, and in your continuing journey back to wellness.

Anna

Thank you so much for your wonderful response, Anna. Believe it or not, your words inspire and encourage me. I hope you do not mind that I have included your response in this Newsletter. I think your words might just give others the same inspiration as they gave me. *Smile*

windac - I agree with you Kitti - books have a way of transporting us to different places, and for different reasons. They're a great escape, and much cheaper than a vacation or therapy!

Welcome to the editorial staff Kitti! You're off to a great start and I look forward to future issues.

Thank you very much, Wind. It's wonderful to be part of this Newsletter team. You are all so encouraging *Smile*.
