Letter from the editor

That pesky writer's block comes around more often than you'd like. I have a severe case of it - well, more often than I'd like to admit. Lack of time and daily chores are just an excuse so I'd feel better for not writing as often or as much as I'd like. Inspiration does play a big role though.

How often do you have ideas but no time to write them down? They float around your brain and you keep telling yourself they'll stick around but they never do. I mean, not everyone can do what Stephen King did - write a book he wanted to write over thirty years ago. It takes a special kind to remember details form that long ago. Can you? I forget what I had for breakfast the day before. How would I remember an idea... But wait!

There are times where are a character presents itself to you and sticks around, never leaving, yet never telling you the true story. You on a chase to find out what to do with him and where does he fit in, but for whatever darn reason, nothing comes to mind! What do you do? Invent things he might have been involved in? Car chase? Murder? A CIA agent? Nothing fits so you let him sit there, in the back of your mind until he reveals his true self to you.

One of the things that help - and also doesn't help in that aspect - is doing a search. You wouldn't search for your character (You may not even know his name.) but you search for things that might suit him. Is he scuba diver and goes off into the ocean to discover something out of the blue? What about that ghost town? Has he been involved in its history somehow? Searching for random things may help find the solution to your problem, or it may create a problem itself - depending on how you look at it. You may find yourself inspired through pictures and articles which will spark new stories and that dark, gloomy character pestering your dreams may have to sit on the back burner for a while. You never know...

One thing is for sure. Don't quit and don't ever think that you might be losing your mind just because a character is stuck in your head and refuses to open its doors to you.
