Party Aftermath
While the WDC birthday party is winding down and everyone is in recovery mode, it's time to reassess all your contest entries and activity on the site. Just like a hangover, everyone feels a little sluggish and burned out from running around like crazies doing all the activities. So while you're laying on the sofa sipping juice and reading newsletters on your cell phone  , I'd like to quickly comment on a few things regarding contests and activities.
First things first, if you participated, be sure to thank those involved in whatever it was. No one gets paid for running these things and a little gratitude goes a very long way. And hey, a few gift points never killed anyone.
Second, if you committed to giving a prize or a review, or....whatever, be sure to follow up and do what you promised to do. Waiting for a prize is kind of, well...you know...sucky.
Third, encourage! If someone ran a really fun activity, send a note or post in their forum that you really enjoyed it and would like to see something similar again, perhaps for a holiday or something. The only way you can guarantee quality contests and activities is to encourage those who run them well.
Sending some feedback, even if it isn't a review is a great way to help someone improve. And even if the item doesn't need improvement, as I said...encouragement goes a very long way. Everyone loves to smile, don't they?
And while you're trotting around all the site birthday contest and activities...remember, there are a few holidays coming up and you could be the next one jumping in the fun. And if you do start something, let the contest and activity editors know, so they can post them in the newsletters. Everyone can use free advertising, right?

Do you love writing rhyming poetry? Poetry is the music of the heart and soul. Through the use of lyrical words and a steady rhyme and meter we sing their melody. As poets, we are students of language and strive to turn those silent notes into words. It is our passion and our art.
Can you compose a symphony? Can you make us dance to the beat? Rhyme and meter are two of the basic building blocks upon which many other poetic devices are built. And they can be difficult to master. This contest will focus solely on traditional poetry using meter and/or rhyme. It is through those devices that we begin to feel and hear the beat of the poetic heart.

I am sure most writers have heard of the six word story that was attributed (however, falsely) to Ernest Hemingway- it told a heart wrenching glimpse in just six short words. This challenge will be a little easier on you- you will have 50 to 75 words to tell a succinct moment, an important scene or even a common one, that is filled with nuance.
Three Prompts is a fantasy and science fiction contest open to the whole of WdC. Contestants get to chose from three prompts to write a story with. Each round will have a text-based prompt, a music/video prompt and an image prompt. Each round lasts one month and the contest is run every other month. The winner(s) are decided by a public vote lasting around 20 days after the contest closes. The winners are then announced in my Newsfeed (winners will be tagged) and on this page.
