About This Newsletter

I've been a subscriber to this newsletter for a long time. When an editor's position came open I jumped at the opportunity. I must say that when I learned I got the job I was terrified. The editors have always done such an outstanding job that I know it's going to be difficult to follow in their footsteps, but I'm going to give it my best. I'm looking forward to writing many more newsletters and hope to hear from you soon. *Smile*

With that said, welcome to my first edition! *Delight*

Letter from the editor

Some time ago I was corresponding with someone who was debating whether or not to host a contest. They were so inspired to create their forum but they didn't have enough gift points to award big prizes. I tried to be encouraging but the contest never came to be.

There are many contest and activities here with big prizes, but there are also some with small rewards that are equally appealing.

Want to host a contest or activity but don't have enough gift points for big awards and such? You most certainly can! There's nothing stopping you, but there are some things to keep in mind.

*Note1* Clearly state your prizes.

*Note1* Do not list prizes you do not have time for. (i.e. reviews, creating sigs, etc.)

*Note1* Do not state prizes you can't afford. If you can't afford a 10k ribbon don't list it.

*Note1* Do not count on donations to help you 'afford' your prizes. You run the risk of not receiving enough donations to cover your prizes. If you do receive donations you can increase your prizes.

*Note1* Be polite and considerate if you are seeking donations. Asking friends for help may seem acceptable but strangers or casual acquaintances may find your request rude.

*Note1* Be realistic when setting guidelines and comparing your prizes. Rewarding a contestant with ten gift points or one review for winning a novel contest isn't going to get you many entries if any. *Wink*

*Note1* And, most importantly - Be honest and have fun!

Your contest or activity may not have the biggest prizes but it can still be very successful. You might be surprised who participates no matter what you offer for prizes. That's all up to you and your creativity.

*Smile*

it occured to me that you can only hold contest if you have gps to spare...what about the rest of us?

There's been several contests that offered prizes such as sigs, reviews, real-life items, custom written pieces, etc. Gifts points are awesome, but there are other alternatives. *Wink*
