About This Newsletter

Hello, everyone. I am ~ Santa Sisco ~ . I'm one of the three permanent editors of the Noticing Newbies newsletter.

I aim to ensure you have a smooth transition into the site. I still remember my first day here. "Bitem?" Do I have to be a computer programmer to put my writing on here? *Laugh* Forty-eight hours later, I realized it was a case of easy when you know how!. My biggest mistake when I joined was that I didn't take the time to read the "Writing.Com 101. I was excited and wanted to do everything the same day. Sound familiar? *Smile*
You will see my contributions every four weeks, and I hope they help you with using this great site.

My fellow permanent editors are Brooklyn and Sara♥Jean .

Letter from the editor

I remembered something I had asked about when I joined WDC and thought I’d point out a few highlights you may have overlooked.

If you think someone might want to join WDC, you can send them a referral link that will earn you a community recognition (CR) credit. The link is unique to you and can be found at the bottom at any WDC page under “Site links” then “Refer a Member.”

Do you have a website or offsite blog? Did you know you have ready-made text and banner links to your WDC Portfolio? Scroll down any page while on here and find the title “Site links.” Then “Linking to Writing.Com.” These are handy tools and can also help to boost your CR. When someone lands on WDC via your portfolio and then joins the site, you are given a CR credit. They must join the site from a visit starting in your port, as joining on a subsequent visit, not via your port, will not earn you a credit.

One of the most frequently asked questions when joining WDC is, “How do I get my work seen?” An easy way to plug your work is via the Shameless Plug Page. From your left-hand menu; “Community” > “The Plug Page.”

This is the one and only Writing.Com Shameless Plug Page!

If you go to a member's community page in their portfolio, at the top left, just under the case, you will see two links; "Membership Info" and "Wish List." Unless set to "Private" you can see what level of membership the member has, and when it expires. You can also gift that member a membership or membership renewal from that page. *Smile* The "Wish List," if completed, will display the items that have been added to the member's wishlist from the site shop. You can gift the member an item, although this is usually used by friends or for prizes in a raffle/contest.

Sometimes you will create an item, maybe a poem or story, and you want to keep notes or references with the item, but don't want everyone to see them. The simple way to do this is to use the "Hide" function. Where you have a body of text to keep private, simply precede it with {hide} and add {/hide} to the end of the text. It will be invisible to anyone reading the item, but the notes will remain for your own reference. (Very handy when writing novel chapters!)

Try reading through the WritingML Help to get information about using writingML on WDC. This link can be found in your left-hand menu: "Writing.com Tools" > "WritingML:Docs & Help."

As always, read the official WDC information in the "Writing.Com 101.
