 Hiya WDC writers! I am thrilled to be your guest editor with a brief look at one of the activities that you can play with here at WDC:  madlibs!

 One of the cool activities that often get overlooked is the fun and crazy Madlib item! What is a madlib you might ask?
According to wikipedia it "is a phrasal template word game where one player prompts others for a list of words to substitute for blanks in a story, before reading the – often comical or nonsensical – story aloud. The game is frequently played as a party game or as a pastime."
Mad Libs was invented in 1953 in the US by Leonard Stern and Roger Price, who did not come up with a name for their word game until 1958 when their first book of Madlibs came out! 
 I was recently re-checking Writing.com 101 for the details for how they work in cyber world and was thrilled to find there are two ways to do it and the new one is the easier way to fill out the story! Yay.
 When you choose Create a New Item and click Madlib, a page opens for you to fill out. You can tell your story in the message box and leave blanks for missing words.
You can create any kind of a short story and some creative people know how to forsee humourous results as possibilities! Not me. Sometimes they will not even make sense...but that is the fun of it and why they are called nonsensical! 
 You fill in the type of words you need for each blank in a list below on the item page.
 You simply type [blank n], where n is replaced with the correct word blank number from input chart.  Notice the SQUARE brackets, and the SPACE between the word blank and Number... eg. [blank 5]! If you forget the space your readers entry words will not show up in the end result! 
I just found an example like that in my search for some to share. I wondered how it happened and now...I know! I am sure the creator did not realize. So it is always good to check out that your madlib works.
When you save it, it does allow you to try it out first!
1. If you entered "[blank 1] held the [blank2] balloon." into the madlib body , in Word Blank 1 below you would enter "Person's Name" and in Word Blank 2 you would enter "Colour", since that type of word would correctly complete the sentences. "Joy held the orange balloon." or "Peter held the blue balloon." 
2. Enter within your madlib body [blank 3] where you wanted to use Word Blank 3.
3. Be specific as you can with your description of the type of words you require that fit your story.
eg. verb: past, present, future tense, gerund, or even singular or plural
eg. noun--- a thing, a toy, if there is a specific type like "gem"
eg. adjective: colour, size, for a person, or a thing,
eg. adverb
 Each person who reads you madlib will get to fill in their own words and create a different and sometimes odd or funny story based from your original one!
Easy and fun to play with as you can be as complicated, serious, comical, nonsensical and childlike as you like. Short or long! Even children can enjoy the play and learn about word types too!
