Interactives

I've noticed a lot of people who have interactive story items tag their items with "Action/Adventure". For those who never delved into interactive stories, it's a type of choose-your-adventure type story, you read the intro and then choose whichever following chapter sounds most interesting to you. After you read to the end of that story string, you can add your own chapter in the item. You add at least a few paragraphs and then leave the ending open for others to add more to the story. For more explanation about the item type, check out the entry in "Writing.Com 101 >>>> "Interactive Story

As the creator of interactives, you're responsible for maintaining the item, keeping the rating on the item high enough to cover the content. While checking content is not always the first thing you want to do when you see notification that a chapter has been added, you should keep up with your portfolio. It's a lot of work for moderators to check 1.8 million interactive chapters and change ratings as needed.

When looking for an interactive story to read and perhaps participate in, you can find them all by clicking Browse by Type in the left column and choosing Interactive Stories. To further filter the list, you can choose to filter out the "most common topics". This filters out many of the most popular kink / fetish stories. If you want to take a peek, leave the list unfiltered.

Once you choose an interesting title, you can read the introduction and then "Click here to enter this story..." to read Chapter one and the next suggested chapter links. To quickly scan the chapter titles, you can click Story Outline and see how long the item is and how many choices you'll have for additions along the way.

Don't forget to leave a review if you find an interesting story, it's a great way to promote the item and have chapters added by new visitors. And don't forget to favorite the item if you really loved the story, so you can add more!

Write On!

Kari thought...

 The Necklace's Curse  (18+)
Necklace = chaos.
#1578230 by Dutch91

Excerpt: Plus, the more the necklace is used, the more it uses itself. In other words, things will go crazy by themselves as time goes on (the changes will still be based off the character wearing it, but they can't control them if they are wearing the necklace).

Due to the craziness the necklace makes, some characters may be scared to use it, since it may change things in ways they don't want. For example, if someone uses the necklace to save a puppy...but somewhere in their mind they're thinking of snakes, you could make it rain snakes. Or have the puppy become a snake. You can screw over the characters as much as you want.

Also, deaths/end of story chapters are allowed (ANYTHING is allowed) but, if the person with the necklace dies or loses it, just continue the story from whoever now has the necklace (or in some cases, it may be more interesting to continue the story from points of view of those trying to avoid things that happened because of the necklace...or something along those lines). Of course, if something so horrible happens that the story will end, then please leave at least one choice that can continue the story.

Ask & Answer

This month's question: ?

Last month's question: How do you use technology in your writing, including futuristic storylines?

Mary Ann MCPhedran replied: I loved the different chapters on the cell pones, and I'm a seventy eight year old wh has no computer skills except what can do I have self taught. Now cell phones I was Okay with when it was the little phone I only used for phoning when I was out. Curiosity finally got the better of me, and I contracted a phone, and I was so excited about the touch cell phone. I could work the camera, but when I was phoning and the caller on the other end said Press 1 if you want put through tot he office, and I looked for 1 and there wasn't. I couldn't get the hang of this so I swapped and went back to the small one. When the contract was due again for renewal I did same again, But after a third contract I have my cell touch phone and can operate it excellently now and love it. I can talk to google and I have no end of research, but for my writing I prefer my laptop.

Quick-Quill sent: My novel was set in 200. I had to go back and research which phone was used back then. Flip phones. Luckily I didn't have to detail the internet usage. That would be a whole different story.

Elfin Dragon-finally published said: I'm a child of the 70's and 80's. And I remember when the most tech-savvy things people carried around for contact were pagers. Even good computers were a rare thing for people to have. Heck my typing classroom had manual typewriters and only 4 electric typewriters.

Monty admits: Interesting, Just traded my smartfone for my old flip phone. Smartfone was too smart for me.

willwilcox reveals: I remember when phones hung on the wall and you had to memorize everyone's phone number. Ah, the good ol' days when you could slam the phone down on people who annoyed you. You can't get that satisfaction with a cell phone.
