The Many Parts of Participation
So many contests and activities and so many rules to follow. Every time you're attracted to an activity here on Writing.Com, you'll find a page with some sort of instructions on how to take part.
Some activities, such as raffles, can be very easy to take part in. Buy raffle ticket. Wait. Win or lose.
Most activities have more rules than that and it can take a while to read through all of them. Usually, those activities or contests with the longest rules are also those where you stand to win significantly in badges, awards, gift points, and other. The creators of those pages have spent hours, sometimes days and weeks carefully spelling out what they want to see from participants. The creators of those pages usually try to use as few words as possible to give the most amount of instructions. And it can still look like a solid page of writing. Because that's what is needed.
If you see a contest or activity that shows you the right mix of challenge and prizes that you seek, take the time to read the rules that the host has written up. If anything is unclear to you, send the host a review of their page and explain where the instructions are unclear. All activity and contest hosts want their page to be easily understood. A constructive review helps with that. If you don't want to send a review, send an email with your question. Most hosts will reply within a couple of days.
Please understand that once a host spent hours writing up a contest/activity page, they won't feel inclined to give a whole new run-down of the rules when you send an email that says, "I saw your contest. How do I take part?" This question should be answered in full on the contest page. Read the activity/contest page in its entirety. All or most of your questions should be addressed on it.

I received these replies to my last Contest and Activities Newsletter "Buddies"

How would you find a writing buddy that writes the same genre, etc? Seems like it's similar to the dating column in the newspaper or joining match.com and end up with the wrong match...then what?
What if you take someone as a writing buddy and the two of you become the best friends ever? What if you write the next great bit of world literature that gets translated into every language and becomes standard curriculum in all middle schools? Think positive.

Oh, me.” My initial attempts 8 years ago while walking my wife of 45 years to deaths door were nothing but stream of consciousness with almost no dialog, now I prefer the dialog, it reminds me of the hundred stage plays and other things I’ve done.
Im a very happy man, I’m in charge of how I feel and negative is not it. I’m very accepting of differences, in fact, I prefer the different. If I had to live with a world of “Me’s” I’d have to check it in.
If anyone is interested in working with a great gramma (3 with 4 on the way) I’d love to talk about it. Soap opera and harlequin romance are not my favorites.
