About This Newsletter

*Delight* Hello readers! Here I am back as guest editor to share some thoughts about contests and activities. My musing today is on why we would enter contests. Feel free to dream up your own reasons! *Fairy2*

Letter from the editor

*Medalgold* Writing contests are plentiful at WDC! Some are site wide and ongoing. Some are monthly. Some pop up when the creator gets the whim or when the contest concerns a thematic occasion.*Witchhat* Some contests have a one time run, some daily or weekly and a rare few fun all year!*Shock*

There are a variety of themes, topics, prompts, genres to choose from: something for everyone! *Smile*

I was looking around to see why we enter contests and the potential benefits! A few ideas popped in to my mind. If you are reluctant, maybe this will spur you to jump in!

*Delight* For Fun! For the love of writing and the sharing of our treasures. Who doesn't want their creations seen by at least one person? Contest judges and often other participants check out your work. I know I always find it very cool to see the variety of creations for one prompt! Wow!

*Quill*For Experience:
It can be helpful to work to a deadline, follow exact rules, open to judging, practice receiving winning or losing messages with grace. How many times have we been disqualified for missing a little rule like word count? Really good wake up calls now when the prizes are sometimes virtual rather than real money! *Laugh*

Even being a judge in a contest can be a valuable experience as you get to see how difficult it can be to choose, and why guidelines are helpful in the process. *Smile*

I always learn something and grow! *Flowery*

*Star*Going Beyond Comfort Zone:
If you have never entered a contest, here is a great place to get out there..even in a short daily contest. Test your skills!
A genre or theme or type of writing may not be familiar...so here is a chance to challenge yourself...for fun!
I have done this... may not have won..yet the high of having completed something I never thought I could was even better! I am always grateful for the muse who was woken up by some contest! *Fairy*

*Thumbsup* Build Confidence:
Be brave here among friends. You can get some feedback and practice putting your self out there as to go out to public contests and publishing will take courage and confidence.

*Heart*Supports the Host/Hostess:
This may seem like an odd one yet it takes a lot to create and run a contest and I know when we do we are excited and want it to be a contribution! Contest hosts love to gift the prizes... and it takes participants to make that happen! *Wink* And you could be the ONE!

*Books1* The Challenge and Skill Building:/b}
Contests can feature specific aspects of writing, as in a poem type, or dialogue or even Novel writing as in the Site NANOWRIMO in November.
I know I sometimes need a little push or inspiration and have often been spurred on by some cool challenge in a contest. I have even tried story writing and...that is out of my comfort and skill zone. *Laugh*

I generally enter contests for fun and to challenge myself...test my mettle! *Heartv*

*Questionp* So, I am interested to know

*grape*Why do you or don't you enter contests at WDC?

Thanks for pondering with me. *Heart*
