Blood, Bugs and Burials
It's the month for horror and scary! With horror contests listed all over the site, what elements do you find most interesting to write about? Do you use rising action and foreshadowing to slowly scare your reader or are you more the slash and gash type that splatters your reader with copious amounts of blood? How do you tread the fine line between scaring your reader and turning them away from your story?
Whichever your methods, remember to use your editing skills before turning in your freaky gem. Check for grammar and punctuation, and most of all, if there was a prompt - make sure you included the prompt! So many entries in contests are disqualified because of tiny things like a missed word count or a bad item post. Don't let something minor like that put you out of the running for an awesome prize. Take five minutes and double check your post.
Join in the scary fun around the site! If you're prepping for NaNoWriMo, it's an awesome tune-up for your muse. If you love the icky, it's great fun to see who you can scare. Write on!

The task is simple: Write a short story using the genre prompt as inspiration!

Excerpt: We are firm believers that far too many writers dwell so much on the grammatical portion of their writing, they stop the creative juices from spilling out of their fingers. A good writer does not stop to correct mistakes along the way. A good writer WRITES until they have extracted every bit of juice from their creative selves. Only then, does a good writer stop to edit.
Keeping that in mind, this daily contest will get your creative mind to write, write, write! How? You won't have TIME to correct. :) The judging will be based on how well you followed the prompt and how creative you were with it, not just on how well you write.

August's question: What do you do when you see a competitor's error?
Tinker  replied: For me, the purpose of entering any contest here at WCD is to get exposure. I want my writing to be read. The added bonus is the possibility of getting a review that can help me improve on my writing. Of course, if I see a simple error in a competitor's writing, a quick email to that writer, pointing out the error is in order. I want my writing to stand up with the best whether I win or lose. If I the content of my writing touches the reader in some way, if my skills as a writer help deliver that content in a fresh and clear manner, I've done my job. The outcome of the contest then boils down to a matter of taste or preference of the judge as long as the rules have been met. The real win is entering. So why not offer assistance to my co-winners?
Beholden  responded: Contact the entrant and try to help, usually by a note in the forum. Invalid entries may be a bridge too far since they may have deliberately removed the item.
