A young man, a young woman, and love.
The Dance

1

The man got up from his chair and sashed across the room. Eyes gleamed of jealously and admiration towards him; any girl would have loved to dance with him, any girl at all. But one would win the man’s dance. One girl to dance with the man. So as he strided towards her, she looked up into space. Wondering and thinking of what it would be like to be a star. To sit and stare at the world all day. And then she awoke.

“Well…,” he said, “Would you mind to dance to a step with me?”

She still stared, stared into the sky, so dark but with so much brightness her eyes could barely look towards it. The room of outside just stood still, with breathes held all around the area. How could he choose this girl? This girl above all girls. No, she didn’t like him. Of all the girls. Of all the girls, he had to choose a thinker. A thinker. A dreamer sleeping a thought in current days, dreaming about leaving town, leaving her life behind and being reborn a woman alone, alone away from the world she would then consider known.

He stood there and looked into her eyes gleaming up into space. Her head was so filled with thoughts, dreams, philosophies,

until his gaze awoke her from the dream.

His eyes met hers, and again she saw stars. Stars gleaming so beautifully in the dark light of the night that they had awaken her senses, and brought her body up to his. She pressed tightly against his body, and he pressed tightly back. Their eyes were still locked without a key, and so they started their dance.

A step to the left. A step to the right. Back. Forth. Up. Down. Around the floor they floated on clouds left by the star gazers that once occupied the dance footings. The ghostly water droplets stood their ground wherever the couple flew. The couple that weren’t a couple but a pairing;

a pairing in a gaze.

2

The night passed along without a sound of music or a single peep of a crowd. All was silent as they danced. Danced so in love, so in love that they didn’t need a word to announce their love. Just a stare so deep, so deep that it could not be broken, even if a sound was to be made. But no, as stated, no sound was made, just the stare.

Just the stare.

3

Then the dance stopped. Their feet fell in mud that crept up their legs, solidifying around their bodies, still holding each other in position. Still in position to turn another corner, to be stared at by the crowd looking at their true love at first sight.

Frozen they stood, with eyes craving each others’ comfort. To break through, they would need each other’s love. Each other’s love would be the only things that could crash the growing freeze that was creeping up their bodies as a morning glory heightens. And as the morning glory blooms in the first awakening of the sun,

the lovelies awoke.

Awake now and conscious, their minds bloomed in remembrance, and the dreams of that night were forever branded in their minds. Together they would never forget their dance. Forever they would be. Forever trying to relive that one, long dance.
