a poem writen the Christmas after he announced the D word
There will be no Christmas here...
There’ll be no presents under the tree
for there is no tree to trim
No twinkling lights merrily blinking
No ornaments hung with care,
showcasing memories of Christmases past
no kind angel perched upon the top,
gazing sweetly upon hopeful faces…
faces waiting patiently for jingle bells upon the roof
There’ll be no mistletoe enticing stolen kisses
nor holly or evergreens gracing the door…
the door is firmly closed against holiday cheer
The fire is out
The chimney long went cold
There are no chestnuts to roast
or eggnog to raise in a toast
There’ll be no carolers singing “Let’s be Merry”
Halls that should be decked in Christmas garb,
lie silent and dark
There is no Christmas here
No peppermint sticks for ole’ St. Nick
nor carrots for the reindeer
The Holiday Spirit has fled,
hitching a ride on Santa’s red sled…
gone from this house…
forever gone from this heart
