A New Super Hero?

Arty looked out of his window and thought that at 64, he was a little too old for a mid life crisis but he wondered where all the years had gone.

He knew he should be grateful to have survived a world war, not to have caught any life threatening diseases … marry and keep a job for 40 years. But was that all there was to life? Hadn't everyone his age done exactly the same things?

A feeling of anxiety was causing his stomach to knot up. There had to be something that made him stand out? Arty ticked off his achievements; he'd bought his house for cash and he'd never had any form of credit or debt. Cash only was his motto.

He'd only been married once, and the marriage had lasted until his wife had died two months ago. They had enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing and short holidays together, after their only daughter had left home to get married.

Suddenly it dawned on Arty that he was judging himself from his own generation's standard and therefore nothing seemed out of the ordinary. But if he looked at himself through 21st Century eyes, things would look very different!

One year and three books later, Arty was now the renowned Guru, Arthur T. Webb. Everyone was saying how these books had revolutionized modern thinking, that Arty was the Super Hero of the 21st Century; he was remarkable after all!
