All that is left after love has gone is dreams
Only in my dreams

In my dreams you come,
I hear that familiar voice,
And the whispered words that thrill my heart,
“I really do love you”.
As you engulf my tiny hand in yours,
I try to respond.
But I waken.
It was only a dream.

In my dreams you come,
I taste your lips on mine,
Lips seeking, demanding, passionate,
The scent of your breath so sweet.
My passion matches yours as our lips meet.
I want to respond.
But I waken.
It was only a dream.

In my dreams you come,
As hand in hand we move.
As lips meet and hands roam to those secret places.
Passions aroused, bodies respond.
We lie entwined.
My lips reach once more for yours.
But I waken.
It was only a dream.

In my dreams you come,
And together we lie,
Naked flesh on naked flesh, becoming one.
My pleasure is also in your pleasure.
As our eyes meet and we share a smile of joy.
I look once more.
But I waken.
It was only a dream.

In my dreams you come,
And again I imagine
Your arms around me in the night,
Holding me close, keeping me safe and warm.
I lie in the curve of your body,
Feeling your warmth and your desire.
I turn to meet your lips.
But I waken.
It was only a dream.

Such cold empty awakenings they are.
As I open my eyes
For a moment I think you are there.
I pretend I feel your arms round me.
But I am alone, the tears a trickle down my cheek.
My only comfort a pillow which I hold close to me,
Imagining it is you.

Those moments of closeness so fleeting,
And I am left with loneliness, emptiness, despair,
And a lifetime of missing you.
For it is only in my dreams that you come.
