A metaphor for the little ones who come to our lives, but don't stay long.
"The First Snowflake"

An amazing little thing,
Beautiful in itself.
A wonder of nature,
A miracle of God.

The very first snowflake
Begins his journey.
Descending from Heaven to earth,
Soon to be followed by others.

Falling in silence,
Through the deep, dark abyss
Enjoying his stay,
Unknown to world.

The very first child
To lay eyes on this snowflake,
Shouts out with happiness
Spreading the word to all.

And the very first parent
To hear of the shouts
Groans as shovels are taken out
And salt sprinkled on sidewalks.

But the very first snowflake
Has reached the earth.
And his life is now over,
He falls to the ground,

and is forgotten.

His short life was not in vain,
He paved the way for others
So all could enjoy
What he had made possible.

His memory lives on
As the first of the year
Life goes on without him
But he has not died

His spirit will live Forever.
