Kind of a loveish type thing...
There once lived a beautiful young girl. To any man, whether young or old, she was nothing less than heaven sent. Most girls would wish for this, but to her it was nothing more than a curse. All she wanted was to be loved for more than her looks.
One night she had decided to stay home while her mother and father went out.
"Goodbye mother, goodbye father. I love you both dearly. Please don't worry about me, I will be fine." She had said this to her parents as they were heading to her grandmothers house, a few towns over.
She turned and went inside, closing the door behind her. Betty walked to the fire, and placed a few more logs in. She reached for her book, sat down by the fire, and began to read. The noises were to start shortly after.
Thud...thud...thud...
Not thinking anything of it, she kept reading. As the noises grew louder, she spoke aloud " What was that noise? " The noises had ceased. And Betty returned to her reading.
The thuds began again, but this time they were louder and more frequent. Frightened and half hoping it was just the wind she called out " Is somebody there? Hello? If somebody is there, please answer. " There was nothing but silence to haunt her, causing her thoughts to run away with her. By this time she had dropped her book. She stood, clenched her fists, cleared her throat and tried to make her voice stop quivering. Trying to sound as brave as she could, she said, " I know someone is there! " she paused a second and began again, " I am not alone, nor am I afraid. "
As if to be an answer the thuds began again. Frozen, Betty didn't know what to do. A cold gust blew through the room, threatening to blow the fire, her only source of light, out.
He had appeared fast, as well as silently. His beautiful thin face, pale eyes, lean figure, and long hands frightened, yet enticed her.
A few moments of silence had passed. He then spoke, and with these words she had chills to the bone. " Betty even though I have fought with death, and he has prevailed, I know I love you. So many times I have wished I could tell you before, but I was far too timid. But now I have nothing to loose. From the first moment I laid my eyes on you, I knew I wanted no one else. Every waking moment I ached for you, and thought of no other. You haunted my dreams, taunting, and teasing me with what I couldn't have. Even past life and through death, I know I want you. Without you I am damned to wander this earth alone. " He then placed his hand in front of her and said " Please take my hand. Be with me, and let me love you for all of eternity. "
She stood there almost forgetting to breath. She knew deep in her heart that he spoke nothing less than the truth. She placed her hand in his, and the fire began to flicker. Her body collapsed, while her spirit still held his hand. The fire went out, and they walked into the darkness together.
