The only thing to fear is fear itself.
Children slumbering safe and warm
God blesses them with sweet dreams
Keeps the phantom creature at bay
Yet they awaken with tearful screams
The wolf preys on children in the night

Sweetheart has a rose for another
Red and picked with calculated care
Praying the token of affection is accepted
Sadly sweetheart he does not dare
The wolf is whispering in his ear

Speak the truth even if you speak alone
Ignore the phantoms over your shoulder
For every lie will haunt you in the hereafter
The wolf will cry if you would be bolder
Yet the wolf’s cry weighs down truth with dread

Dear children , dear sweetheart, and dear you
He cannot hurt you that phantom creature
Any power he has you have given him
Train your eyes and ears above to your teacher
Sleep without fear in love and truth
