A simple love poem
You
By Brian Marais, 8/10/04

Why am I the way I am about you?
How could someone love,
Unconditionally,
Someone who never tries,
Someone who won’t know Love,
Even if it stood in plain view?
You, oh blind you.

When no feeling exists in a body,
There can be no knowing,
No elation, no conviction,
No understanding.
There can be no heart-felt Love,
No heartbreak, no being in shattered pieces.
You, oh unfeeling you.

How can I love you,
The way I do?
You, who never tries
To understand the power and meaning
Behind the thought,
Behind the action,
You, oh thoughtless you.

I surrender to you,
To your perfect beauty.
You have blinded me,
Transfixed me with your grace,
Yet I’ve held you captive,
In the world that is my heart.
You, oh exquisite you.

When I hear your sweet voice,
My body gets cold.
When I see your beautiful face,
I get nervy.
When I touch your soft skin,
My heart falters.
You, oh how I love you so.
