... as I waited for "The Nutcracker" to begin ...
At the Theatre

I sat and waited
For the curtain to
Open

It seemed to take
An inordinately long time

While waiting I
Kicked the seat of
The person
Before me
And looked at the lines
On my palms –
Roadmaps to Gypsies

Then when I wasn’t
Expecting it
This sound began
To draw me
I swear
Out of my spot
Off the red velvet seat

I looked around to see
If anyone else
Was ascending

Yes, far across the way
Were three or four others

Then I realized
No, they were just going
For Jordan almonds.
