Angels saved my life once before.
My Angel

I sit at the edge of despair.
I devour my soul as images,
With sound only I can hear,
Consume all that I am.

I sit at the edge of despair.
Christmas lights, fire fight,
Green tracers coming in,
Red tracers are going out.

I sit at the edge of despair.
Rockets roar, mortars thump,
Steel and bullets tear the air.
The past consumes me.

I sit at the edge of despair.
He coughs red and begs to live.
He dies in my arms.
He dies, I live, Oh why?

I sit on the edge of despair.
Angel touches me, “You OK?”
I smile and return to her.
Her eyes of love pull me in.

I return from the edge of despair.
I’m pulled back by an angel,
Just as once before,
Angels brought me back from war.
