Cats take over my life (where do you think I got the handle "hobnobkitkat" from?)
Kitty Tails

Into my life rolled two balls of fur,
Three pounds of fluff, claws and whiskers.
Ears like satellite dishes,
Paws like soup plates,
Like hand-me-downs waiting to be grown into.
Two handfuls of trouble and fun.

Bright eyes survey their new universe.
They take their first tentative steps.
Then pounce – there goes another imaginary mouse.
And in minutes they are rulers of their domain.

Every inch of my home becomes theirs.
Up the curtains, under the bed,
Behind the sofa, on top of the cupboards.
Till it is nap time once more.

I watch their sisterhood bond grow,
Fighting, squabbling, chasing.
Then curling up together, quarrels forgotten,
They wash each other
And sleep, cuddled together

I creep into bed.
But soon I hear the padding of eight paws.
Then two jumps and a scramble onto a bed too high.
Soft fur by my side, we sleep…….
But I am wakened early by two kneading paws,
And someone on my pillow pulling my hair.

Kittenhood lasts such a short time.
They have grown to fit those ears and paws.
I can no longer hold them in my hand,
But instead they have me firmly under their paws.
I am their obedient slave.
