a lesson in perseverance
Darkest Days

What days yet to come?
Who there to meet me?
Can this be my total,
my grand sum?
Despair turns to greet me.

Darker days known
Both within and without
Every waking moment
Creates these inner doubts.

Numb from the hurt,
oblivious
Dead eyes gazing into space,
shiny with grief
Muted quiet
Unnatural stillness
A silent prayer asks for relief

Frozen in the night,
A glowing ember is my rage,
Hands grip unseen prison bars
Trapped inside an ethereal cage.

Truth is shattered,
My cosmos fragments
Floating silently in space
Adrift now,
Weightless, without meaning
My world disappears without a trace

Tricked by life, by gods,
What of the future so long envisioned?
Now bound on all four sides,
Invisibly imprisoned

Cursing the shadows and the clouds,
A world devoid of sun
Those small crystals hurriedly gathered
Put back together one by one

Held up to a new day
Tiny prisms bend the light.
Colors living
Flitting
Dancing
Gone now is the night.

Across the spreading dawn,
Laughter joyously peals.
Boldly moving forward,
Together
Giving all a chance to heal.
