for a friend dealing with family struggles
Leaves
Like shadows that will not leave
Fossilized leftovers of leaves

A reminder
That everybody leaves

Years ago it was all such fun
But everybody leaves
Some for good or forever

It’s how you smile through it that matters
It’s how you make amends (if you can)
In the end
It’s how you struggle through it

Everybody leaves

Everyone’s immoral
Everyone ignores the truth
Some get big reminders
Others fade away
But everyone’s a sinner
And all can be forgiven

It’s just how you smile through it that matters
And how you say thank you
(if you can)
in the end.
