The face of an angel, "that face."
That Face
An Ode to Dalette

I've seen the face of an angel,
when my baby daughter smiled.
I've glimpsed the face of devotion
as grandmother stroked my hair.
No madonna ever brought such comfort,
such peace, serenity, what's more,

I've wanted to tell you, my friend,
since so dear to me you've become.
In your face, I see it, "that face,"
the face of the smiling cherub,
the same devotion, patience, love
like Mother Mary, so calm, so real.

I'm not an easy one to trick, you know,
My memory's as sharp as a tack.
I don't lack intuition in matters like these.
My skills were honed by years of betrayal.
I know faces. That's how I survived,
reading faces, I cannot be fooled.

When you look upon me with your sweet glance,
I want to smile right back, immediately.
No guile there, no deception, no lies, no fuss.
Without ado, you're just you and oh my,
I love your face, "that face." God bless.
