A poem about relationships that have been "reversed".
I used to stand and dream so long,
I knew what my future beheld,
But I couldn’t help but spite her,
She had what I wanted,
But to where did he belong,
Somewhere completely different?

There had always been something,
Of his nature that swayed my feelings,
And made my heart pound,
I wondered why in a best friend,
A new love I had found.

I told him the truth,
I thought he turned away,
But he had also expressed himself of me,
The very same day,
Fate intervened,
And not a word reached me.

I thought he had just left,
And he thought the same,
The next day we ceased to remember,
To try and forget,
These unspoken words and their regret.

Time passed on,
I tried to help him win her heart,
To try to win her over,
He thought she was nice and smart,
But the truth was as ugly as the reality.

I knew how she was,
And how she really felt,
Her disposition and attitude,
How she was using the innocent love,
She would get what she wanted,
And show no gratitude.

Inside of me,
Anger began to grow,
The spite never ceased,
and exploded into flame,
Once I knew the truth,
I couldn’t act the same.

She was targeting his heart,
I knew pain would be coming,
I had to change his mind,
I told him how it was,
And I couldn’t believe what I came to find.

Little did I know,
That all along,
It was in my arms,
He wanted to belong,
The love between us,
Had always been unspoken,
We could be silent no more.

No more pain,
No more war,
She had lost,
Now she is alone,
she’s paid the cost,
Such a pity,
That our places reversed,
From alone to loved,
And loved to alone.
