For my step father: One who promised so much and took even more...
Wolf In Shining Armor

He rode so tall upon his mount
Whose coat seemed white and pure,
I did not know from whence he came
Nor what land he headed to.

Mine eyes were caught by his gallant gaze
As he stretched his weary frame,
Mine heart was stilled as his voice I heard
Like a thunder before the rain.

Was this he
For whom I’d spent much time upon my knees?
Was this he
Sent to help us flee from the reality of that time?

I could not see how one like he
Would take us far away from here,
For a man like he
So strong and free, my dad would never be.

Before my mind these thoughts had held
He’d slipped softly to the ground,
His eyes met mine and stayed awhile
As though a home they’d finally found.

This man I loved and called my dad
Stood so high from where I lay,
Mine eyes were caught by his once more
And with passion I began to pray.

My prayers no longer sought from God
A man to unshackle us from our shame,
For this man had so completely switched
Our chains for ‘cuffs of pain.

Mine eyes were blinded from this truth
‘Til he’d left for another land,
Yet this man, I think, he stole my soul
He took from me my hope.

He ripped my heart from within my chest
And he gave my mind the need to float -
To float upon the slightest breeze
To remain just beyond my grasp.

My mind to me it feels so strange
Like a vapour which can never last,
The only thing there is left for me
Is to stand and confront this past.
