When Ashley became a vampire.
Feeding time Ashley thought. Now, who shall be my unlucky victim?
Ashley had been a vampire for nearly five hundred years. She was one of the many fledglings of Rasa, one of the most powerful vampires in Toronto. She had transformed Ashley in the year 1506, after she had discovered the town that the vampires called home. Ashley had been only seventeen years old, but age had never stopped Rasa before and it certainly hadn't stopped her that day.
Ashley had been a very lonely girl and was sometimes very mean. She never listened to what others told her and since she had no friends or family (except the aunt that had adopted her after she was mysteriously orphaned) she could do whatever she wanted.
One day, she had decided to go down the dirt road that she knew so well. Her street seemed endless. The porch of her home faced the woods that were at the end of the road. She was forbidden to go into the forest though.
Going in just once is not going to hurt me she had thought. Then, staring at the trees, Ashley ran off the porch and started down the street. She ran into the woods without thinking twice about the black rose that she saw, even though she had read enough to know that they symbolized the vampires.
Luck really hadn't been on her side that day. After discovering the most famous restaurant/bar in "Sheylom" (the vampire city), she stumbled upon the persuasive Rasa.
Rasa had wanted to transform Ashley the minute she saw her. You see, the more fledglings a vampire has, the more powerful they become. The only problem with this is that the human has to be willing to become a vampire or else the vampire who transforms them will not become stronger. Instead, they become weaker.
"Little girl, do you have even the faintest idea where you are?" Rasa had asked her.
"No. I do not really care though. I like this place." Ashley had told her.
"You cannot stay or you will be killed. We are vampires and this is our town. Get out or..." Rasa looked at her.
"You really expect me to believe that you are a vampire?" Ashley had asked very calmly. She had looked amused at the fact that this woman claimed that this was a town of vampires.
Rasa's expression darkened. "Yes, I do. Now listen, do you want to return home to your pathetic life where no one respects you? Or, would you rather stay here where everyone listens and where you will fit in? I could help you, Ashley. If you let me transform you, you can stay here and have friends and people who care about you." she had looked at Ashley for a long while before she turned around and got another drink.
The offer was tempting. Ashley hated life and figured that this couldn't possibly be worse. "Fine. Transform me, but I want to know that it won't hurt." she said.
Rasa smiled. "It does not hurt one bit, little girl. Now come. Lets get on with it."
That had been the end of their conversation and the end of the life that Ashley hated so much.
All night long, her aunt had worried about where she was. If only she had known that her niece had become a vampire-a vampire who needed to feed.
Ashley's sudden need for food would have explained the disappearance of Adam Wilmer, who was Ashley's greatest enemy in life, but of course, her own disappearance had not yet been explained either.
