Past, Present and Future

A warm breeze blows in through a partially open window, bringing with it distant memories of a life I once knew, a life that once cradled me in its arms giving me all the sustenance needed to give my life meaning.

I sit many nights in thought, wondering what it is about memories that makes the present seem less fulfilling. Why do we feel such a need to re-connect to our past to make our present more meaningful?

In all my thoughts and all my writing I’ve struggled for some profound meaning and reason for my unending search for peace but always end up on the same dead end road.
I continue to search for ways to recapture some part of my life that once gave me happiness and meaning only to learn that much of the past and its events mold us into the people we are today.

Knowing that, I’m left with the one true question that really matters, who am I? Knowing what I know now, I’d say I’m someone that strives for truth and reason in a world that can’t offer either. With all the reason, truth, and logic we still face the undeniable truth that our past molds our future and we can either face it and use it to our advantage or become a slave to its petty whims. Someone once said that “Those who fail to learn from the past are condemned to repeat it,” and despite my best efforts I find myself slowly progressing down that familiar path.

“ With closed eyes we can achieve anything, even happiness, but eventually we must wake up and embrace the reality that lies before us.“

Maybe it’s time I opened my eyes and began my own walk down the road less traveled to find who I am and where I belong for I have no use for the past any longer.
