A True Story
It happened on a warm Sunday night in June. Shawn Crawford, Micheal Grier, Tina Schutt, and I have done this a couple times but one night it all changed.

Tina and I would go to Garson and hang out with Shawn, Micheal, and sometimes Jessica. Tina is my younger sister we are only one year apart and people always ask if we were twins. They don't ask anymore since Tina dyed her hair black. I had long blond hair, blue eyes, and wear braces. Tina had long black hair blue eyes, and is taller than me. People always think I'm the younger one. Tina also had braces. Tina and I would go and get Shawn, walk around and talk. Shawn has short brown hair and brown eyes. One day Shawn brought a friend named Micheal. Micheal is short with short curly blond hair, blue eyes and also has braces. So we walked around went to the corner store, and talked.

Then around 9:45pm we went to the Garson arena. Shawn and Micheal went across the highway, while Tina and I waited around the arena. We watched them go across the highway. Than I couldn't see them anymore I needed my glasses but I never bother wearing them. The next thing we know Shawn and Micheal came running back, Micheal was yelling "RUN." Tina and I just stood there. They finally caught up with us and when they did a white Cadillac hit the rock, that they had placed on the road. There was a loud "bang" and we turned and ran. I didn't look back but I heard Shawn yelling from behind me. "He went in the ditch." Shawn and Micheal ran in front of me, I was behind them all. We ran through a trail by the arena and it lead into the back of the fire station. We stopped running. We could hear the car's horn going off... It wouldn't stop. I was now really scared so was Micheal. He said, "OK guys I'm really starting to get scared now." He repeated it about three times. We soon were around Ravina Gardens. I seemed to be the only one who was still out of breath. I keep coughing and my throat hurt from running. Shawn than Said, "Lynda can like die from doing this." I just laughed. Well than again I do have a heart problem and have lack of oxygen, so there was a reason why I was still the only one out of breath. We were walking for a while, and I wasn't breathing so hard anymore. I was no longer scared and the car's horn had stopped. We walked back to the Garson arena and we seen lights flashing and two other cars on the highway. The feeling came back inside me and thoughts went through my mind. "what's going to happen? Why? What have we done?" It was now 11:00pm Tina and I waited at the Garson arena for my mom to pick us up. When she came we said, "bye." To Shawn and Micheal. Tina and I looked out the window when we went by. The car had been towed away, and there was a man with a search light looking into the bush.

Weeks went by. Tina and I still went to Garson and still hung around with Shawn. Now Tina was going out with Shawn. That night when we went home there was a message on the answering machine. It was a man from the police station. He said, "Tina and Lynda Schutt were a witness to an incident with a young male laying down a boulder on Falconbridge highway." Than saying they would need a statement from us both. My mom looked at us and she said, "What the hell is this all about? What did you two do now?" We didn't want to tell her that Shawn had done it, so we keep quiet. My mom finally convinced us to tell her. Tina told her the story, and my mom didn't really seem to care much. She said, that she wouldn't tell anyone that Shawn did it, but if the police came to get statements from us that we would have to tell them everything. That we can't lie.

In mid August I went blueberry picking with my older sister Lisa. She was sixteen short brown hair with blue eyes and is very tall. I don't really like blueberry picking I just do it for the money. When we got back Tina said, "The police called and said they are going to come here around six for our statements." The nervous feeling came right back. I hate police I get nervous when I have to talk to them. Lisa went to a friends house, my mom was working late, and my dad was in the garage. Tina and I called Shawn and told him everything. Than we called our friend Andy just to talk, after we called our mom to tell her that the cops were coming. Around 1:00pm Shawn and Andy showed up at our house. Andy is really tall is black has short brown hair with brown eyes. We hung around outside on the deck, just talking. I wasn't that worried anymore. It was now 6:30pm when I heard the door bell ring. We all just stood there not moving. Tina finally said, "Lynda go check if it's them." So I ran inside looked out the window and saw a police car in the driveway. I had the feeling back in me, as I ran back outside "There here." Tina and I told Shawn and Andy to stay outside until we came and got them.

We opened the front door, two policemen where standing there. One was tall with short blond hair and the other one had short black hair and looked Chinese. The blond one said, "Are you Lynda and Tina?" "Yeah." Tina answered. I just shook my head yes. They stepped in, told us their names..which I no longer can remember. The blond one did most of the talking. He explained to us that they just needed to get our statements. Tina and I lead the two policemen down to the living room. The Chinese police officer went out to talk with our dad. The blond police officer was telling us about the car. "It was a white Cadillac, a rental car the people were on vacation from Florida. The damage is worth about $5000." I thought he was mean, and rude. He wasn't yelling but his tone was loud enough, he made it sound like we were going to jail. However he went on. "You guys are lucky we are only here for your statements, because if it was my choice I would be taking you two out in handcuffs." Before he could go on the other guy came back in. I just sat there really nervous, wondering what Tina was thinking. " I just talked with their father, and he said we could go on and get their statements." Tina stayed down stairs with the blond officer, as I lead the other one up into the kitchen. Just outside the patio door Shawn and Andy were still sitting there. I didn't want the officer to see them, I was so scared. Why didn't they leave I thought. The officer took out a note pad and a pen. "Tell me everything that happened that night, and I'll write it down." As I was telling him the story, I felt sorry for Shawn. It felt as if I was telling on him by choice. When I was finished he handed me the sheet so I could sign it, after I done so, I went back down stairs and sat beside Tina. She was already done. The two officers got up, the blond one then said, "You two may have to testify in court, and you are not allowed to see or talk with Shawn, or Micheal. They will be charged and have to pay for the damage they have done." Tina started to cry. I could understand.. Shawn was her boyfriend. Finally the two cops said, "Thank you for your statements." and left. Tina looked at me then said, "We can't see or talk to Shawn." She then went straight to the bathroom.

Tina and I went back up into the kitchen and let Shawn and Andy in. We told Shawn what they said and told him what we said. "If we were caught talking to you right now we would be in trouble." Tina told Shawn. Also we told Andy not to tell anyone about this, since he was the only one who knew about it. We all went into my room, and started to play "Grand Theft Auto" to get our minds off things. Not long after my mom came home, Shawn and Andy than left. We told her what happened and told her that the blond guy was mean and threatened us about taking us out in handcuffs. She was a bit mad someone should have been with us while they were taking our statements. We are both under the age sixteen.

Around the end of August, Tina found out Shawn had been cheating on her. She found out over MSN, from a girl named Lauren. Lauren had told Tina, her and Shawn have been going out. We haven't talked to Shawn since the day the police came. Tina was so mad, she started making up a poster about Shawn and on it, it said, "Shawn Crawford is a cheater." She wrote a bunch of stuff about him, and than made copy's and put them up all over Garson.

The first day of school came, I was going to Lasalle for my second year. I was starting grade 10. Tina was going to my school and it was her first year of high school. Since it was my second year Jessica and I showed her around and brought her up to her home room. I meet a new friend his name is Shane Maloney. He has short brown hair with blue eyes, he's in grade 11 and was sixteen. He became my boyfriend.

Shawn wouldn't talk to us until mid September. One day at lunch he said, "you guys are rats." Tina and I tried to explain that we had no choice to tell them. Shawn told Tina he hated her, also that he seen the posters she put up in Garson. He also threatened to get people after her. When lunch was over I had math, and Shawn was in my class. "Do you hate me too?" "No, I hate your sister." That night on MSN I asked Shawn why he cheated on Tina. "I didn't mean too, I told Andy to dump her for me but I guess he didn't." Over months Shawn was talking to us again. Tina and Shawn had also made up and were back together.

In February my dad told us we had to go to court on March 24,2005. My mom contacted the Crown Attorney to try and get us off. We had a meeting with her not to long after. My mom told the story about the cops threatening us. She also mentioned my health problems. I didn't know why or how that would help us get off, but in some way I think it did. She seemed to feel sorry for me. I had a procedure done in Toronto just a month ago. I got three stents put into my heart. I guess that story and all the other problems I had got to her. She let Tina and I read over our statements. I know some of the things on mine I did not even say. She told us she would try to get us off.

March 23,2005. I stayed home from school that day, I can't remember why. The phone rang around 1:00 I answered it. It was a policemen he said, "May I speak to Tina or Lynda Schutt." "This is Lynda." I said a little worried. "Hi, I'm calling about the court papers, you and your sister got a few months ago. Well you and your sister no longer have to testify." "So me and Tina don't have to go to court?" "Nope." "OK." I hung up the phone, I was so relived. I had thought we weren't getting off. My mom had a hard time believing me, she thought i was making it up at first. I told Tina as soon as she came home from school. "I know." She said, "Shawn's dad told him he didn't have to go either and that they settled it so no one has to go to court, and Shawn was so happy he almost cried." So Shawn and Micheal were no longer going to be charged, and now we could hang out with them without worrying about getting into trouble. I guess it worked out for all of us!
