Sequel to Woods
Woods 2

Upon a knoll amidst tall pines,
strong oaks and shady elms, I sat
engrossed with Stephen King's suspense
while you played alone upon a grassy ridge

along the side of sloping banks
where railroad ties held bands of steel
no longer used by anyone
but children, those indulged in recollection

of generations past, and lovers seeking
solitude from probing eyes
that judge by sight alone
what they and laws cannot condone.

You saw me watching you and called me
with your eyes to join your escapade;
I did not hesitate though wondered
what there was that I could do

since you had things so well in hand
but wanted, still, my company.
I acquiesced, though, sheepishly
and let you lead the way

to realms of newer territory.
I felt your strength, your will,
and let you have delight with me
as if I didn't know how it would end.

I did and let you have your way,
a lamb beneath the lion's paw,
and felt your breath upon my neck
while enterprising hands groped deftly

in the depths for some response,
successfully, prolonging it,
artistically, perfect timing
with tongue of flame licking

at the heated embers in the pit
until the warm emission cooled
itself between the heaving bodies

in the woods, among tall pines,
strong oaks and shady elms
while Stephen King's suspense
lay dormantly deferred
upon a knoll close to a grassy ridge.
