The kiss I did not take.
There she stood,
Then she leaned,
Extending her soul,
Passion in her eyes.

Eyes containing the world,
Reflecting her beauty,
A beauty shadowed by fear,
A beauty eternal in dreams,
Dreams never to take true form.

The moment came.

We danced to the moon,
And sailed our way home.

The moment came.

Her smile lit the night sky,
Her countenance dimmed the stars,
Her eyes revealed the ocean,
Her lips graced the waves.

Then she drew closer,
Bringing her soul to mine.

The moment came.

Fear set in:
The fear of failing,
The fear of being alone.

The moment came,
But I turned away.

I turned away from the soul I could never touch,
I turned away from my only desire,
I turned away from the muse of my heart,
I turned away from my one true love.

The moment came,
And I passed the moment by.
