In memory of my brother's best friend. He died in my brother's arms in Iraq.
Sitting on my trailer steps in this country called Iraq

Even in this safe zone, I'm expecting an attack.

Months of endless violence have left me tired and alone,

Thinking of my buddies who will never go back home.

Fighting for our freedom is mentioned from time to time

But what do I tell his daughter and family left behind?

When Rachel comes up crying, Joanna by her side

Can I tell them his last words without reliving how he died?

Can I explain how much he loved them while trying not to cry,

Do I tell them what I felt as I watched my best friend die?

I wish that I could comfort them but I don't know what to say

Cause I relive that moment again and again each day

And I know there's no forgetting; only trying to move on

Because I know thats what he'd want; he'd want us to be strong.

He would want us to be happy, or as much as we could be

So even as I move on, I preserve his memory.
