inspired by the poem Miss Rosie by Lucille Clifton
PreJudice
When I see you
being taunted because of
the color you wear
or
When I see you
being ashamed of where
your family derived from
or
When I see you
being rejected left and
right like the plauge
no one wants because
you are not uniform to them
or
When I see you tying your hardest to be
like them although you know
you never will be
because of the color you show
I stand up
and look past your coat and into your heart
I stand up
and accept you for who you are and not for who they
think you should be
