It's a poem about drunk driving and what could happen.
Do you remember Katie?
Yeah we don’t hear much of her lately.
Wasn’t she the one who was drinking beer?
Then got in the car and tried to steer?

She ran her car off the road,
They claim they saw her car being towed.
The story changes the more it gets told,
And then forgotten by the rest of the world.

But like I said she isn’t around,
To claim what little praise she found.
Her parents don’t socialize with the rest,
They like to remember Katie at her best.

She took another life that day,
Yeah, just like that, two lives thrown away.
The little boy was out with his friend,
No clue that he would finally meet his end.

So those tear-stained invitations were sent,
And when received, we knew what they meant.
During the service no one spoke,
Fearing their judgment would lead them to choke.

Katie was better then she led them to believe,
I remember her being the most sincere.
Her life was set to be quite a story,
But now she’s not here to even say sorry.

Yeah she drank that beer without thought,
It was their approval that she sought.
But now, sadly, they won’t even admit,
That their friendship for her was merely a skit.

They didn’t even care to take her key,
Her vision was blurry, and she couldn’t see.
They didn’t care that she had to drive a mile,
And ignored the fact that she was acting so infantile.

But now you know of Katie’s mistake,
I hope it’s not one you dare yourself to make.
‘Cause Katie’s not around anymore to be told,
I guess the alcohol turned her heart into cold.
