Title prompt written for a Kansaspoet Contest
Tattered Edges

I have a shirt with tattered edges.
It is my favorite one.
I wear it when I first get up
'Til when the day is done.

It fits me when I'm ugly,
Or can't do anything right.
It doesn't turn and walk away
When I feel like having a fight.

The tatters make it special;
I know each one by heart.
I hope to always have it,
Wear it 'til it falls apart.

I have a friend with tattered edges.
She is my favorite one.
I think of her when I get up
'Til when the day is done.

She likes me when I'm ugly
Or can't do anything right.
She won't turn and walk away
When I feel like having a fight.

The tatters make her special.
I know each one by heart.
I hope to always have her.
We never want to part.
