A birthday party in outer space

A long, long time from now,
For those of a different race,
It’s quite normal and sane
To grow up in outer space.

So lived Xinta-3368,
An antiquated female robot.
She lived alone and sulked,
The robot that time forgot.

Once she was quite useful,
But her owners moved away
Now she sits and mopes,
In a strange robot kind of way.

Her planet was nearly deserted,
No intelligent life around;
She searched countless times,
But solitude was all she found.

Just once did she have visitors,
A party looking for a thrill
A birthday celebration
For some bloke named Bill.

Tired of the same routine,
A boring party year after year
They decided to throw their party
On an entirely different sphere!

With goodies and surprises
Enough to last a week,
Xinta-3368 sat in silence,
For she had forgotten how to speak.

Baffled, she tried to communicate,
But quickly admitted defeat,
While the group ignored the robot,
And continued their retreat.

Their joy, though, was short-lived,
And they became sad at any rate -
Stuck with a miserable android;
What a way to celebrate!

Quickly the party departed,
and once again she was alone;
though she had the lingering memory
of the strangest birthday party ever known.
