A Wisp Of Fog

A wisp of fog was sneaking about
With mischief on its mind.
He wanted to send a chill through the heart
Of anyone he could find.

He started up and down a street,
Seeking a likely house.
He looked into a window and saw
A woman and her spouse.

There was a branch, hitting the glass,
Making a thumping sound.
When the woman looked outside,
He started twisting around.

She let out a startled yell,
"What in the world was that?
I think maybe a ghost's out there!
Now, where do you think it's at?"

The spouse gave out a little snort,
She turned around and glared.
He was making fun of her fright,
And she had thought he cared.

The wisp of fog laughed with glee,
An argument had begun.
He floated up the street with a sneer.
He wanted to find more fun.

He searched to find another place
To give someone a scare.
He looked and looked until he found
A graveyard over there.

He silently paused by the swinging gate,
To look for victims there.
What he saw filled him with fright;
All he could do was stare.

Up from the mound of a newly dug grave
Came a white and ghastly shape.
He was frozen and could not move;
His mouth was all agape.

He gave a shriek that could be heard
For many miles around.
The spouse from the house down the street
Said, "What's that eerie sound?"

The woman said, "I told you so!"
The spouse said , "You were right.
I'm sorry that I doubted you,
Let's lock the doors tonight."

The wisp of fog that gave the shriek,
Was almost scared to death.
He thought a ghost was after him
And flew with labored breath.

Back in the graveyard were all his friends,
Standing behind the fence.
They enjoyed the fun they had
At their wispy chums expense.

So, if a lesson is to be learned
From the story I just told,
'What goes around, comes around'
Is a phrase that's worth pure gold.
