"The Red"

A pounding jugular
To pulse the red,
It knows the bounds
Of words unsaid.

A rise and fall
Will come and return;
Paced with the red,
Infusing the burn.

A hand will close
As a knot is forming;
Preparing to release
What lies dormant.

Reserves of strength
May come into play;
Depending on the red,
Depending on the day.
