writer's cramp winner: silly short poem about a friend who agrees to sub as mascot
Prompt: You sub as a mascot for a friend; What happens?

"I'm pretty sick,
can you lend a hand?
Someone has to
pump up the fans.
My Mustang suit
is clean and dry.
I'd appreciate it
if you gave it a try."

"Sure," I said.
"Don't give it a thought.
I'll buck and prance
and run at a trot."

"Much obliged,"
he said before leaving,
"I'll have my wife
bring it over this evening."

An unsung hero,
that's what I am;
but, I can fix that
. . .
to the phone I ran.
I called my collegues
my boss, my folks,
in laws, and out laws.
Oh what a joke!

"Watch me tomorrow
I'll star in the game!"
If I had any horse-sense
I'd move and change names!

In just a few hours
the stands will fill,
but, I sit here staring
at this costume still . . .

My friend never mentioned
that he acted as half.
My family and friends
will sure get a laugh.
You see, the Mustang
played by my friend
is a two-piece outfit
. . . and I'm the tail end!
