a short vignette
A Vignette in a Vineyard
I was in the vineyard just before sunup, you know that time of day ,when the hours to come still hold that promise of something yet to happen. The soldiers on the vines were getting themselves ready for the sacrifice of becoming this years pinot grigio.I could see that the moisture from the night still glistened on the orbs, like expensive jewerly.I bent down to take a handful of the dirt that had given life to the vineyard for so many years.I took a deep breath ,smelling all the fragrances that the earth provided to me,I thought if i could bottle that aroma the world might be a different place.
The sun was starting to break over the nearby hilltop, the first beams of light were being born right in front of me as I watched. I knew that it would be another day of hard work, trimming vines and raking getting ready for the harvest .
I thought back to the day of the "incident" as I remember it now. Being the private audience for the new day I couldn't help but wonder if this was the day they'd be back.
