I found so many envelopes I never knew I had
Apparently you gave them to me secretly
Over the summer
The last time we were friends

A compartment opened up on the gift you gave me
And dozens of burned CDs and even more pieces
Of paper dropped out
Gray, light gray, dull purples most of them

I couldn’t read your scribbled down words too well
But I remember a reference to Edgar Allen Poe
And I wondered why
Your writing seemed so much like Lowell’s .

Then I woke up
