"all changes, even the most longed for, have their own melancholy." -Anatole France
Melancholy

Securely held in his embrace,
A forlorn tear rolls down her face,
No longer love, but vacant space,
Between them, home; a lonely place.

Familiar paintings on the wall,
And echoed footsteps in the hall,
A life she built to watch it fall,
A world so big; seems now so small.

Afraid to look into his eyes,
She breaks away from their disguise,
Ignores his pleading compromise,
And watches as their faint love dies.

One last kiss, on trembling lips,
So cold beneath their heart’s eclipse,
She frees herself, from fate’s firm grips,
And waits for her Apocalypse.
